Came across a real cool mod done to the 9XR transmitter and wondered if it would be possible to do the same to a Devo TX...

That specific hack looks to be about replacing existing pots with a joystick. it should be the identical procedure used there on a Devo10/12. To hook it up as an additional channel would require a firmware change and some very fine soldering.
