Whole swash plate moves up and down with throttle? was created by SimonPCollett
Hi,
I have a brand new Walkera CP Super and have added Tom's Model7.ini I'm very new to this and I just want to know if it's correct for the entire swash plate to move up and down along with the throttle? With the throttle off the plate is so low that the gear teeth don't meet with the gear on the motor. I have to hit 30 - 40 percent before the teeth catch and I get sudden lift.
Since starting this post I've looked again and seems I've sheared the top half millimeter off the teeth on the big gear under the swash plate which is why it's not making contact, but my original question remains, is it correct for the whole swash to move up and down with the throttle control?

Yes, the entire swash plate should move up and down. That's normal for a collective pitch heli - at least, in my somewhat limited experience. That changes the pitch of the blades, and thus the lift you get from them.
No offense intended, but is this a first heli for you? Or maybe a first CP heli? If the former, then you might reconsider and get something a little easier to fly to practice on first.

Welcome to helicopter world. I think you better use the simulator to practice hovering before flying the real heli, otherwise you will get crash easily and need repair and tuning. You can ask me if you have questions about heli. For proper settings in deviation for super cp, I can help to give you some advice. Please attach your setup file for me to review.

There shouldn't be any movement in the gear position; likely you have crashed and the gear has slipped down. Gently squeeze using the rotor stopper and landing gear (with a battery in), this will press the gear back into position. There shouldn't be any vertical slop in the gear, it should always mate vertically with the motor gear.
With the flybarless system of the Super CP, the swashplate moving upwards will result in more positive pitch in the blades, giving more lift. On other swash/linkage systems, eg. some flybarred helis, the swash pulls down to increase pitch.

Does the Super CP use any collar ring above the chassis (top side) - below the swashplate?
If yes, you may have to tigthen it so the rotor shaft is fixed and does not move??
I just know from my Blade NanoCPX that the rotor shaft slipped off / above the main gear once crashed.
I personally used Uhu to fix the shaft with the main gear (the shaft was about 2-3mm out of the main gear to do that).
Sorry I have not used the SuperCP before - so I do not know about it's mechanics.
IMHO you would need to properly adjust your flight mode 0 / N mode pitch curve too.
Less negative pitch (max -1 to -2 degree pitch) instead of full negative pitch: 0-25-50-75-100 (0: max negative degree pitch, 50 = zero 0-degree pitch)
e.g 40-45-50-75-100 or 30-40-50-75-100 ( I usually use latter 30-40 pitch curve on ST1/FM1 when flying with fixed throttle instead of child throttle).

..mmh, I think he has crashed hard at least once and the gear has moved a little downwards the shaft.
Remove the skids and press it back.... with thump at the lower end of the shaft and pointing fingertip on top.
That's all normal with the SCP.

Thanks for the replies people. A closer look confirms that the teeth have been partially stripped from the huge plastic gear (not the tiny one attached to the motor). Believe it or not I've been flying planes for decades and quads for years. I've flown helis but only on and off, and I tend to go months and months between trying them. I've just moved up from a fixed pitch single rotor plus flybar (can't remember the make). I'm fairly competent at hovering with the collective pitch model but I still have to keep the nose pointing away from me or I lose all confidence. My biggest problem is I've never sought out any kind of community where I can learn properly so I really appreciate the replies.

Hi, thanks for your message. I have replied to this thread with more detail and a copy of the settings I'm using. The TX is the DEvo-7e btw.

Nothing wrong with your ini.
Believe me or not, this little guy flies best with expo little as possible. With some pressure on the stick you should see some movements.
That's the way to keep it under control, otherwise it is mostly too late for a counteract and then it is easy to over steer.....
You better switch as soon as possible to constant headspeed ( fmod1 is more stable) then to hover at fmod0, which will lead you sooner or later into a toilet bowl effect...
Quads don't count or do you fly them at rate mode in LOS?
Edit: Tom's Standart SCP flle is a good one, nothing to change but try the Advanced Beginner with less expo first.
Edit2: If you have problems with nose in and don't want spend hours and hours on the sim, you can cheat a little in the beginning.
As fixedwing flyer will know this,.....turn your body 90 degrees to the heli and then the directions stay mental the same for you.

Here is my config on SuperCP for your reference. This setup achieved almost constant head speed. As others mentioned, the EXPO should be set a bit lesser, using 30 in your current settings is too sluggish.
