Devo firmware

Hello everyone. I am looking to purchase a Devo radio to use with my existing quads. I have thought about getting devo 7e tx and installing NRF24L01. I am not too trilled about the lack of range and features of this particular radio. I am also not sure if I want to attempt either of the range mods. Is it possible to install the devo NRF 24L01 firmware on a Devo 8 or 10 tx and get the improved range without the headache of moding the antenna? Thanks everyone.

The reduced range of the Devo7E only applies to the built in CYRF6936 radio, not the NRF24L01 if you install one.

And range mod for Devo 7E does not have anything to do with antenna - it's a replacement of a very small part inside the built in CYRF6936 radio.

Answering your direct question, yes - Deviation works on a series of Devo's. Full list is on the main page.

Thanks for replying. I was wondering if the internals for the 7e and the 10 tx's are similar which would imply installing the NRF24L01 the same way if you have any advice or pics of install on devo 10. thanks again.

Please forgive my ignorance. If I'm understanding correctly the NRF24L01 has it's own antenna and range capabilities and controls the devices listed on the main deviation page. The stock CYRF6936 is only relevant when using devices supported by it? Thanks once again.

Yes, all rf modules have their own range capabilities. There are mods available that share antennas, but those don't change that. And yes, each RF module only affects the range of the protocols that it supports.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the main deviation page", but the second page of the supported models spreadsheet (in the links) lists which protocols are supported by which rf modules, but it's a bit out of date for the NRF24L01 stuff.

Sounds like you haven't read the official rf module installation instructions, as those describe installation in the 10 and 8. You can find those on the Links page (also in the menu). If you're looking at a blog post or youtube video, be warned that they could be out of date. If you have't read through the official instructions, please do so.

I am having some difficulty installing the firmware on my devo 10. I did the multi mod but cant seem to locate the devo 10 file after using the defuse tool.

My tx is recognized but I cant locate the dfu file.

It is in the download zip file with hardware.ini and tx.ini.
You need to extract the firmware zip to a folder.
Models directory is also included in the zip file.

thanks I think I have the devo firmware installed. I have a syma x5 will I have to individually install each model? or should I be able to access it directly from the tx?

I am having some difficulty with getting my computer to recognize devo in usb mode.

What version windows are your running? Can you try another USB port? This isn't too uncommon, most of the USB port drivers seem to be compatible but we see a few that just won't cooperate.

Also, what software are you using to do the DFU?

It seems that my pc is recognizing it now. I am running windows 10. I am having a problem getting the understanding between these two versions. I think the latter one has the dfu file is that correct? /deviation-emu_devo10-v4.0.1-f5d851e and zip deviation-devo10-v4.0.1-f5d851e.zip/. The reason why I am asking is that do I need to down load the 4.0.1 basic version? it says that to use the latest nightly builds. but when I down load the emu version file it does not contain the dfu. thanks.

Post your hardware .ini file.

Also, the emu .zip file is not the firmware that you flash to your DEVO. The emu is an emulator that simulates the Tx on a PC.
Use the other .zip file for your Tx.

That did the trick was able to get the deviation start up screen! Getting closer to testing a config. i found this one for the syma x5. Is there a way to download it as one of my models/ thanks again. model16.ini under user VroomVroom.
