Deviation Devo7e 3way switch mod, A7105, NRF24L01
Devo6s 2x2 switch mod, trim mod, haptic, multimodule, A7105, NRF24L01, CC2500
Devo12e 4-in-1 with voice mod -- it speaks!!

There is nothing to stop you from using the Devo 7e with Deviation to control any APM FC. So, yes, it works.
There are some things to consider. How many channels do you need? Do you plan to add gimbals, retractable landing gear, lighting, other accessories, etc? Do you need to control a camera? Are you looking for a long distance flyer and need telemetry?
Deviation has up to 12 channels and you can choose from a number of longer range protocols. However, the Devo 7e has a limited number of switches and no potentiometers without extra components (it's pretty easy to add more, and it takes some programming knowledge). Personally I like the smaller form factor, but that limits the way we implement mods...some might say it encourages innovation!

thanks for that info, I'm starting out cheap as this is my first build, so I'll prob want a camera, but not much else yet, hopefully I'll be able to either upgrade or mod the tx once I get my head round it all!
cheers
