Binding a Devo 7e to a FrSky D4R-II

I am a beginner and recently started building my own quad from scratch. I was able to get the drone powered and up and running and am now focusing on binding it to my transmitter, a Devo 7e. I googled around and watched youtube videos but couldn't figure out if this was possible. When I go into model setup on my transmitter there is a star next to FrSky:

• Is there a protocol I need to install? and where would I find it?
• Is it even possible to bind the devo 7e to the frsky d4rii? or do I need to buy a frsky transmitter?

The leading asterisk indicates the required hardware is not installed in the 7e. The Frsky protocol requires a cc2500 radio chip. See the Hardware and Modifications section in the wiki.
