While it is likely possible, it will need a different radio module (probably one of the 3 I already have). Of bigger concern is that I have no Futaba gear at the moment, so I don't have the ability to reverse the protocol.
So I may get to it some day, but it is not on my immediate radar.
I'd rather work on stuff I have access to like the AnyConnect and FrySky stuff.

I'm less optimistic about existing RF modules. Futaba seems to use customized RF chip with "Futaba" logo on it.

highres images of the radio chip, amp, antenna, etc would be valuable to see what the likelyhood of use is. Another possibility would be to use an SDR to find the protocol (and determine compatibility). There's someone over on RCG who has access to one (though possibly not Futaba hardware)

Edit: I found this, which indicates the T8J uses a CC2500:

Cut-out from the FCC internal photos of the 18MZ transmitter section - Red square is ML2724, Blue square is CC2500:



18MZ FCC ID of: AZPT18MZ-24G

FASST uses the ML2724 IC - from Micro Linear.
S-FHSS uses the CC2500 - from Texas Instruments

CC2500 device is used in other manufacturers 2.4GHz systems, FrSky, Hitec, RadioLink, Corona.

So it was just rebranded CC2500!
I saw exactly the same board with "Futaba" chip on it somewhere on the web. So it is :)

BTW, is it technically possible to make some kind of module multiplexor or all-in-one module? I think the most complex part will be antenna switch.

I plan to try it at some point. I don't have much RF experience, so getting shielding right may be an issue for me (and I hate soldering SMT, so prototyping will also be tough), but i'd love to build an all in one module at some point. I believe there are high-speed analog multiplexers that can handle 2.4GHz (maybe something from Maxim?) I dunno didn't dig into it much yet.

I would also be interested in a FASST-version. This would really make the deviation TXs' unbeatable. I don't think the protocol would be the big problem.
But where to get transmitter PCBs? Without them, you cannot do any upgrade to a devo transmitter.

Does anyone know, if there's anywhere a ML2724 transmitter PCB available???
For I really don't think it's a good idea to make such HF PCBs ourselves...

Using the Futaba TM-modules would surely be easy (you just need to feed them by PPM), but they are also costly.
But I couldn't find any cheap transmitter PCBs, like e.g. for the A7105s.

I know this is an old thread.

I looked up the ML2724 (RFMD site is a mess) The part has a 2003 date on it, lacks an integrated base-band engine, which would suggest the part has been superseded by newer and better parts. The "not recommended for new designs" stage should have passed many years ago.
There should be no reason to use this part unless you need compatibility with old equipment, which may be the case why Futaba uses it in later products.

ML2730 also lacks a baseband engine. This antiquated part (2009?) "only" contains RF-modulation and de-mod sections, and is way behind the curve of other SoC-parts that also include base-band engine, USB, SPI-interface, AES en/decryption and integrated micro-contoller and other stuff.

It does have a 20dBm PA and may well be a nice part, for its era, but any new design would clearly leave it in the dust, and I would consider more recent designs, like www.ti.com/product/cc2540 with a CC2592 25dB range extender, and others.

There is always a trade-off in pissing off old customers sitting on piles of old equipment that may become non-interoperable.

This may be the reason Futaba has a branded chip to interface this this part?
Alone the ML2730 can't do anything.
