What number of channels do you set for DSM2 protocol?

Set to 4 ch. Throttle is on ch 1. All 3 control surfaces are responding. I even tried putting battery in plane with throttle at 100% then bring back to 0 to calibrate esc. Problem is that the micro does not beep like a larger esc would to learn throttle so I don't think that is working. Bind back to 4 ch spektrum tx and all is well.

Can you try bind at 6 channel mode?

Also, you can try gradually move throttle trim to low side, then connect flight battery. Check at channels monitor the throttle channel, low and high values (-100% - +100%).

Spektrum call it a 6 or 4 channel rx so it makes sense that you have to bind it at 6 or more channels. I know on my um 4-site I put it in to a mode where the ailerons where on separate channels so channel 5 became active.

UPDATE: 6 ch DSM2 worked! Throttle is operational. It never occurred to me that this is a 6 ch Rx since the plane only uses 4. Thanks everyone. Time to pick out a new micro now!!!

It seems that 4/5 channel mode has problem with order of channels at DSM2 frame. Or 4/5 channel transmitters have at reality at least 6 channels, but only use 4 or 5 of them.

I have two of the micro Orange Rx 4 ch units and they work perfect in 4 ch mode though.

I checked it with my Ultra Micro. With any channels order in the DSM2 frame, throttle working only at 6 channel mode. At 4 or 5 channel mode all 3 control surfaces are responding, but throttle not responding.

It is possible that 4, 5 and 6 channel Tx always send DSM2 frame with all 7 channels, but unused channels have fixed values (=0). For example, DX6i always send 7 channel with fixed value 0x1800 (channel 6 (0-6) and fixed channel value = 0 (-150%)).

With E-flite Blade mSR all are the same. Throttle responding only at 6 channel mode. But RTF version included 4 ch Tx (MLP4DSM).

Yep, I built my own dsm module for the 9x from a tx out of a Dx4e. It's at least 6 channels and dsmx. The RTF ones are the same, but a little less power from what I understand.

As I've said before, DSM2 is a difficult protocol to implement fully because Spektrum seems to have kept 'upgrading' it while maintaining backwards compatibility, leading to lots of corner cases. Some Rx understand all variants of the protocol, whereas others have specific expectations. Since I have access to one DSM2 Tx and 3 DSM2 Rx, I cannot test (or even detect) all of the weird corner cases. So it will likely continue to be a trial-and-error approach to find how to make specific models work.

I think will be better at present time limit DSM2 protocol to 6, 7, 8 and 9 channel mode. It will narrow area of problems to users.

Well the Orange Rx micro receiver is true 4 ch and works perfect in 4 ch mode. So I would not want to see 4ch go away. The ar6400 is a true 6 ch Rx so it makes sense that it needs to be in 6ch mode even if most micros only use 4 channels. I think Dsm2 is a great success so far!!!!

At version 2.00 corrected error at DSM2 channels normalization, version 1.1.2 has scale=100% but really 150%. For old DSM2 models you need increase all rates now to 1.5 times.
