Ordered some LEDs from Amazon for the 7E here:
140 pcs SMD SMT 0603 Super bright LED Blue Red White Green Orange Yellow Pink 20pcs each color
www.amazon.com/Super-bright-White-Orange-Yellow/dp/B008X6QS90
...didn't realize just how tiny they are until the pkg arrived today. Quick search on soldering them suggested taping them in place to hold, this oughta be fun

In case there might be someone else out there with this being uncharted territory, a sense of scale:
I was curious what the arrangement was in the stock JJRC-1000 controller that comes with LEDs. Looks like they're 0603 LEDs as well...
oh ya... Thinking of cutting a small form-fitting section from a discarded video card or getting/making one from mylar film using conductive ink/paint? Any other ideas for the LED mounting holder?

With my large hands and aging eyes, I need help working with these little parts. Here's a site I found with some
Awesome SMD LED Tools
. The one I use the most is the LED/wire holding tool about halfway down the page. And the intelligent LED tester is amazing.

I FINALLY got around to doing an LED mod on my 7E, I used a pair of 395nm UV 0603's and a red 0603 for the alarm. The UV LED's are on all the time (that the power switch is on), the red LED is wired in parallel with the piezo buzzer so it's an alarm. Soldered 30Ga magnet wire directly to the LED's. The UV LED's are interesting cause plastic doesnt transmit UV light so it REALLY spreads it out (it also changes the light coming out of the devo into visible purple / violet light).
