A7105 module strain relief was created by mwm
Well, the RMA antenna connected to my A7105 came off. Again. Seems to happen every time I have to muck about inside the radio. Hot glue doesn't seem to help.

Anyone got a solution for strain relief?

I'm thinking about trying liquid electrical tape, or maybe some instamoprh or sugru along with something to hold in it in place - like that liquid tape again. Anyone got any comments on either of those ideas?

Hi.
Could you post a pic or two :-)

I honestly wouldn't use any form of glue. Makes working on it later a total nightmare!

A pic or two of what? My A7105 with the antenna coming off?

Hot glue comes off easy - that's why I tried it. Unfortunately, it also isn't working well.

The other two choices aren't glues. Liquid electrical tape is great stuff for tight spaces and scrapes off, but I'm not sure how well it would work here. Instamorph is malleable plastic, and this would be my first project with it.

It seems like the A7105 antenna problem is that the ones from BG (and other sellers) have a wire antenna soldered to the board as opposed to an IPX (U.fl) coaxial female SMT connector. It's probably cheaper just to use the wire because most users don't want or need the antenna connector. Done correctly the connection will be very reliable and resistant to abuse.

I would prefer to have an option and I've ordered a few connectors for my boards just because. The solder points although small are right on the board edge, so it doesn't seem to be a risky job.

Can you provide a link to the connectors you ordered? I think a lot of options showed up on ebay, but I'd rather not wait a month to find out I ordered the wrong thing!

This is a case where the JoySway module would be an improvement. No connector and it won't work with the MM, but it's at least got a long enough antenna lead that you can position the antenna inside the Tx with some freedom.

My ebay RF vendor of choice is Wifi_Expert (coaxrf.com). They charge about $10 for 10... lesser quantities seem to end up costing nearly $10 anyway. PM me if you want just one or two, cause I'm not gonna use them all for a long time!

If antenna coax is what you're needing to secure, and it's long enough, you can probably improve strength by running it along a clean surface on the module for a short distance. Then your hot glue, or whatever you decide to use should have more 'purchase' along that run. Try to have the length of attached cable point in the normal direction of strain to increase its staying power. You may have to make a loop of sorts to make this happen. Assuming you have enough cable.

Point source connects can be problematic. Especially if there's no through-hole.

With enough length of purchase even a weak glue can stand up to a fair amount of strain.

Well, for the record, Instamorph doesn't work. Not without extra tape/glue/something to hold it in place. IPX connectors on order.

Thanks to all for the help.
