Devo 7e to control planes ? was created by Nitro_123
Hi everyone !
I'm going to buy a Devo 7e with a walkera super cp. I'd also like to get a Hobbyking Reaktor and fly that with the devo.
Is it possible to fly planes with the devo and deviation ? I've been reading the forums and haven't seen anyone say they fly planes with it.
Also what protocol do you guys think is the best ? Over at rcgroups some people are having troubles with dsm2/x. is it worth getting the FrSky protocol working ? I've heard its rock stable. Can anyone explain any more ?
Thanks !

Of course you can fly planes!! I fly my Sport Cub S without problems!
But I recomend you to do the range mod!! (for large distance)

Any brand or model have their protocols! In the supported models you can see!

Certainly works fine, I fly many planes EPP switft, funjet, Sig wonder, Stick, and more. With dualrates, trottle cut/hold, expo curves, Mixing of ele and aileron, i also have on model with the orange stabilsator. Next that fly CC3D and Openpilot and Cleanflight/betaflight models.

Use mostly Frsky RX good range, small and telemetry, but also other models walkera, DSM, and Eachine H8 etc, but you need to instal, modules.

I programmed almost all my stuff (I own more than 100 planes, quads and helis, all using DSM2 or DSMX) into my Devo 6s, apart from the really big planes that need a lot of range, like my Parkzone Radian and such. I love the form factor of the 6s compared to my DX6, so easy to take on holidays.

A day without flying can't be called a day.

What Sero said, though I've got about 1/10th of his collection.
Definitely do a thorough range check first though.

Thanks everyone ! Appreciate the advice and help
What protocol do you guys think is 'better' ? i'm going to use both FrSky and dsm2/x hopefully. Leaning towards dsm because i don't want to do the extra soldering :')
I'd like to fly a Hobbyking reaktor with telemetry if possible.
Thanks for the replies again :)

I only use DSMX but I definitely see the advantage to frsky; DSMX is just now starting to jump on the telemetry without extra equipment bandwagon (with receivers like the currently unavailable OrangeRx Rx20X line and now the new LemonRx 8ch ppm with internal telemetry) but frsky gives you telemetry, including the MSP data out of the flight controller, with no added crap.

Either way you can't go wrong, they're both great protocols with great performance and numerous receiver options (albeit DSMX definitely has the advantage with number of receivers on the market)

Edit: I forgot, I am using one devo, an Rx1002. Everything else is DSMx based

Frsky has really goodrange and small diversity receivers with telemetryand rssi etc.

I really hope the flysky afhds 2a protocol gets deviated soon:

As those seem also very good options, excellent range, cppm 14channels, telemetry bus, diversity and very cheap.....

I'm also a fan of the FrSky protocols, but the telemetry hardware for it is getting hard to find as FrSky considered them obsolete. If all you want is RSSI and a couple of voltages, it works great. Or if you're using non-FrSky telemetry kit - say a flight controller - there's no problems. But if you wanted something like an RPM sensor on an airplane, you might be out of look.

So I'm looking forward to the D16 protocol used by the X series Rx's as well. Seems to be in development for the DIY Tx module, and code migrates between the two....

I think i'll go with dsm2/x for now and will upgrade to FrSky later
In terms of telemetry all i wanted was the receiver voltage and rssi but if I can't have it a timer will do
Do spektrum compatible receivers have that sort of telemetry built in or do we have to add components for that
I can't seem to find information of this sort off google :(

The latest OrangeRx and LemonRx DSM receivers have builtin telemetry. The OrangeRx ones have been out of stock for a while, apparently because they are doing a new version. They also do spectrum flight log data instead of RSSI. The LemonRx ones are so new we don't have any reports on them yet, but claim to have RSSI. They also all do either PPM or SBUS, which the Spectrum licensed ones don't seem to do.
