Do a ground check.
Set the transmitter to 100mW, place it at least at 1.5m height and walk with the receiver until it loses bind.
Edit: range on ground is lesser than in air. (Fresnel zone!)

Was successful on my Devo10@100mw DSMx.
Ground RangeTest (reduced output power) works on Spektrum DX8 up to ~60m with AR6210.
Not only 30-35m. So far my tests in 2013.

Anyway never once did I find a rx that didn't make 500 meters. A single antenna lemon sat would start to drop bits around 630m but any diversity DSMX / DSM2 receiver would make it well past 800m...

Resistor or Diode? That is the question... <-- Click here!
In my opinion, the component that is being referred to as a diode is in fact a 10k Ohm Resistor, not a diode. Checkout the photos with the component removed to be measured out of circuit. It was then reinstalled and bridged over with a thin wire and solder. This method allows it to be reverted back to original state if desired. Note, the EMI shield was first removed for the rework and reinstalled post mod using a solder rework station that incorporates concentrated hot air.
I hope this helps.

Here's some supporting measurements post mod on the stock module:

A more simple test in your environmental conditions would be to take a pall with you and go to a large field. Bind the TX to the RX of the model. Then begin a walk with your buddy remaining behind to monitor/save the model in the event an issue arises. If your setup supports it and this is applicable for the application, you may want to employ fail safe settings in the event of a lost signal. For example, apply full brake on a 4wd buggy/truggy when the RX loses signal. This works especially well for surface models.

Do you have any genuine Spektrum RX like AR600, AR6210, AR8000 + TM1100/TM1000?
