A quick question. Will a model file produced on a devo 8 work on a devo 10?

A model file written on a Devo 8 will probably work, but of course we recommend that you test it before using it. The 10 has all the same switches with the same names as the stock 8, so switch assignments will be consistent. The screens are different, so toggles and the screen layout must be adjusted.

I keep a copy of the emulator for each model so I can test (and adjust if needed) any new model.ini file.

Deviation Devo7e 3way switch mod, A7105, NRF24L01
Devo6s 2x2 switch mod, trim mod, haptic, multimodule, A7105, NRF24L01, CC2500
Devo12e 4-in-1 with voice mod -- it speaks!!

Yes. Unchanged, even. The opposite is not true, as the 10 has two inputs - AUX4 and AUX5 - that aren't on the 8.

The model files are designed to be compatible across all transmitters. Unfortunately, the transmitters have different switches, and the 10 and 12 have more analog inputs. You can usually fix the switches by doing a global search & replace on the .ini file to fix it. I wrote a switch conversion utility, but don't use it very often because I generally write my own model files.

Wouldn't be too hard to have translation tables in Deviation to allow any model file work in any transmitter without modification.

Would sure cut out a bunch of mess.

But what switch would translate to where? I think I recall that there is a basic thing built-in (or used to be?), but when you have the likes of FMOD0-1-2 and MIX0-1-2, how do you translate that to a 7E that only has FMOD0-1 and HOLD0-1? Or when you have three DR switches, how do you translate that to one DR switch (6S)? There has to be some sort of human intervention to get the end user to decide where everything needs to end up, or whether to dump a setting.

That's what the switch conversion utility was designed to do. You would configure what each of the switches would convert to for your transmitter.

And while we could put this kind of functionality in the transmitter, it wouldn't really fit on the 7E, which is what needs it most.
