New CC2500 module was created by vadimus
I've successfully installed a new CC2500 module not mentioned in Wiki.

CC2500 PA LNA bought from ebay
www.ebay.ca/itm/401042055029?_trksid=p20...e=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Took me some time to guess the missing pins but then I deciphered that SO and SI stand for MISO and MOSI respectively.

As the module came with SMA connector soldered in I just drilled a hole and secured it with antenna nut.

Flashed a nightly build and enabled the module in hardware.ini.

Successfully binded with this FrSky RX

Initially I did not enable PA/LFA so the range was like 5m or so. Still good for home flying but what's the point of not utilizing PA/LNA when they are available?
Jumpered GD0 to PA and GD2 to LNA.

Did a quick range test. Left my ZMR250 at home on the 2nd floor, put the home phone next to it, dialed home from my cell, took transmitter and went outside.
I changed the flight mode every couple meters and heard the beep as an RC link confirmation. First I set TX into range test mode (100mw), the signal got lost at like 80m or so.
In full power (150mw) my crescent ended before I ran out of signal.

So for me 163m in not the most favorable conditions (the quad is behind the wall) is quite OK for a racer quad. Maybe I'll get more of these receivers, especially if I'm successful in flashing them with custom fw supporting RSSI.

That's really wired, I used same CC2500 module on my 8S, Frsky protocol , D4R-II receiver @ 3mW power,
I can get over 200M range ......

I have big range with Frsky even when set to 100uW lowest power setting/range check, when measuring RF with a simple field strength meter, I find that Frsky output at lowest power is still significantly high. (much too high for valid range check)
When using orginal Frsky Tx in range check my Rf strength meter, does not indicate anymore any radiated power. At full power the level of original Frsky and my deviaitd module are about same, but Frsky to be very high power radiation protocol.

Keep in mind, this receiver has no PA/LNA and the original firmware is not the best.
Flash one of the RCGroup versions and try again.

Reflashed my RX-F801 with midelic's fw.

Now SBUS, RSSI and FS are working for me.

What I don't really get is how to use Telemetry page on my Devo 8s.
First, there is no RSSI window, though I can set up RSSI alert in the model setup.
Second - there is some weird voltage reading not matching the actual battery.

The F801 does not read or transmit any voltage if you have no approriate mod.
For the telemetry there is only RSSI then. That is the reason I am recommending the F802 overall.

Is the bat attached this way.?

..or like that?

The batt is not attached yet and that's expected to see Volt2 but not Volt1.

Still, where do I find RSSI? Is there a way to put RSSI on main screen?

Do I need to change some settings over here?

This is what I can do on 8S at this moment.

For your info, V1 is A1 from the external bat and what is seen at V2 is the real voltage at the MCU pin for this measurement.
It will change to a measurement for A2, if this source is attached. But, on a F801 you can't do that, only A1 or A2 is supportet with out a mod at the mcu. ( and F802 firmware)

Is there a way to calibrate the RSSI indicator?

FC and radio interpret the signal differently.

When FC shows 100% the radio shows 133. While I can calibrate the RSSI scale on FC side to match the radio 100% range on it seems to be more intuitive and logical then 0-133...

One more crazy question - RSSI on radio side - what is it about? Signal strength received from TX to RX or the telemetry uplink strength from RX to TX?
I suppose they could be different.

They are different.
RSSI.. 133, is what the receiver sends to the transmitter.
Seen on my 7e and the Frsky FLD_02 ( DFT). To set this to 100 ,the firmware on the receiver has to be changed for this.
On Devo the RSSI for the transmitter is not shown.

Edit:
What you can test , set the " set max_check " higher than to 1900 and see if you get different results. The maximum I have seen on the rc gui
was 2041, which was shown on the tx as RSSI=119.
...but do not fly with this setting.

Edit2: Use a RSSI_ADC to the FC and the measurement is much closer to the RSSI value displayed on the transmitter.
