Help! T8SG locked on black screen. What to do???

Hi
I bought a second hand T8SG V2 (not plus). It worked perfectly for two days, then I turned it on and it showed the big USB symbol and would not work at all.
The only thing it would do was switch to DFU mode so I reloaded the firmware into it using Dfuse. It loaded successfully and verified it.
But now it is stuck in DFU mode and has the black screen whenever I turn it on. Dfuse recognises it immediately, reads the currently loaded firmware and I can reload the firmware no problem. But after it stays stuck in DFU mode.
I tried using the Deviation download program, but it will not recognise the radio type and won't go any further. It says its a devo7 for a few seconds then changes radio type to unknown.
I cant get it back into USB mode, so I cant see it on my computer and I cant format it.

What can I try next? I enjoyed this radio for two days, now it useless. Please help.

Thanks
Jack

Usually transmitter is stuck in DFU mode if you load wrong firmware. Are you sure you use "t8sg_v2" firmware?

If you have USB symbol you need format USB drive and write filesystem from firmware archive. Use Safely Remove Hardware.

What Dfuse version do you use? You need to use Dfuse USB Upgrade Tools 2.31.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

Firmware version I am loading is - deviation-t8sg_v2-v5.0.0-1741128

I would like to format the radio but I cannot get it back into USB mode and my computer does not detect it as a drive.

I am using Dfuse v3.0.5. But I will download the version you suggest and try that one. I am at work now so will try it when i get home.

Thanks.

I'm not sure about Dfuse v3.0.5, for Devo transmitters (and clones) you can use latest version v2.31. I think you can damage transmitter bootloader. If so, look at forum how to flash "bootloader". You will need to flash "devo7e-256" bootloader.

Hi Vlad

I downloaded Dfuse 2.31. It also writes the dfu file to my transmitter. But its still stuck in dfu mode.
If I click Leave DFU Mode, it turns off the transmitter. But when I turn it on I'm still in dfu mode.
Also, at the bottom it says its a Devo-7E transmitter.

I read about reflashing the bootloader, but I think that is beyond my abilities.

Thanks
Jack

Dfuse read transmitter ID from bootloader, so probably you have bootloader intact. But, Deviation download program also read transmitter ID from bootloader.

You can check if EXT button is always connected (pressed). In that case you will always boot to DFU mode.

I removed the pcb and checked the EXT and return buttons. They work. Its not that.
It was good to check though :)

If you read (Upload) firmware from transmitter and save it, you have *.dfu file filed with zero. Try to download fresh firmware archive. Use Dfuse "Upgrade" button.

Also you can try to flash different build based on v5.0.0 release core:

Which v5.0.0 file would I use for a T8SG? There is none listed with that model number.

New development....

I uploaded the devo7e v5.0.0 dfu file. Once I had done that it allowed me to switch back into USB mode, and for the first time I was able to see the USB drive on my computer.
So I formatted it.
Then uploaded the correct dfu file. But now it wont allow me to switch to USB mode. Even if I re-upload to v5.0.0 dfu file. Its back to being locked in DFU mode.
One difference is that if I switch it on it now doesn't switch off. I have to disconnect the battery to get it to power down.

I had a moment of hope when I got it into USB mode, but its dead again.
Any more ideas before I use it for shooting practise :)

still more developments....

I jabbed the button loads of times and it went into USB mode. So I formatted again, and loaded the correct system files onto it, then re-loaded the dfu file.

And................

still dead.

WOOHOO!!!! IT WORKS!!

Thanks so much Vlad. You have made an old man very happy.

After making it live again with that dfu file, I tried re-uploading the dfu file from the website, and it doesn't work. But it works just fine when I put the earlier version back in, so that's what it going to have.

Now to go flying :side:

I could not get deviation-t8sg_v2-v5.0.0-1741128 to work.

But the copy of deviation-t8sg_v2-v5.0.0-2019-03-05 you gave me a link for worked well.

Thanks again.
