Since we're updating the manual and thinking about user-friendliness. Is there something we can do to the
File Repository of the main website
?
Thinking back to when I was a newbie. I find that the listing of the firmware, filesystem, emu is not intuitive.
I think it's important to have the critical files (firmware, filesystem) listed with out other Devo radio's version in between.
For example, change it so it groups together the radio's firmware. Like so:
Ideally, I think that the firmware and filesystem should be together in one zip file. (Not sure if that can be automated, as I believe the build script spits out two file.)
The emulator can be a separate download. I am fine with that.
At the very least, perhaps some changes to the file name can help with the sorting. I find tacking deviation at the beginning of each file obscures the name of the radio the file belongs to.
Right now, it's in the format such as:
deviation-devo10-v3.0.0.zip
deviation-fs-devo10-v3.0.0.zip
deviation-emu-devo10-v3.0.0.zip
Perhaps it's better to formatted as:
devo10-firmware-deviation-v3.0.0.zip
devo10-filesystem-deviation-v3.0.0.zip
devo10-emulator-deviation-v3.0.0.zip
Then the website will automatically group the files better? Also, saying firmware/filesystem/emulator may save the newbie the need to decipher what FS or EMU might mean.
Alternatively, we can have each radio in it's own folder.
Anyways, I want to get other's opinion on this topic.

I think the old Deviation releases, (i.e. 1.xx, 2.xx) should be moved to a subfolder call "archive" or "old releases" or something like that.
Right now, it takes up the prominent position on the website.
The latest v3.0.0 is off the page.
Perhaps change it up so
Latest Firmware appears first. Follow by, Nightly Builds, then Firmware Archives.

merging the files together for official releases is probably not a bad idea. I don't do it for the nighlies because most folks update the firmware a lot more than the filesystem.
Moving the old releases is also not a bad idea.
Joomla's file download section is pretty atrocious, I can't say I'm happy with the ay it works to be honest. I'm not sure if there are tweaks that make it more manageable.

Oh my! Joomla. My Nemesis.
I have worked on lots of CMS systems. Joomla 2.5 way of doing things don't jive with me.
I hope the newer Joomla releases are better. (It seems more user friendly.) But I have recently migrated my wife's business website away from Joomla completely. After it was hacked due to some vulnerabilities in the 2.5 system.
That was not fun.
