I just removed the SMD LEDs from one of those 12V strips, cut the plastic out a little inside, and stuck them in place, then soldered them up with some resistors and fed them from the 5V point on the secondary screen board (the red wire that comes from the primary board).

Sounds simple. I'll probably have questions.
When you say, "cut the plastic out a little inside" I guess you mean inside the tx, in the vicinity of the buttons, right?

The clear part has little notches cut out for the LEDs, but there is a circle of black plastic around that which I had to cut as the LEDs I had were too big to just slot straight in. And make sure when you fit them that they don't "invade" in the inner part of the circle, or they'll scratch against the buttons when you use them.

OK, thanks.
In the mean time...
I used a Photoshop file provided by Coldbrew for the 7E Switch panel (post #44244) and made a version for the F4 based on his work. Attached is a jpg version in its current state. It may be useful or not depending on your switch layout. Maybe I can make a version that suits your needs if you let me know.
Or I could just provide the layered Photoshop file (PSD) so you can roll your own.

sorry, I haven't to much time now, but you can check my repo on git, so see what I forget to fix.
this repo can only make the emu for devof7 but the devo f7 and f5 has the same menu screen.
for build the emu, you can go to src and write this command.
make TARGET=emu_devof7
and ./emu_devof7.elf
mu repo is: github.com/djtrance/deviationtx

LED's ... The ones I got are way too small - about 1/2 the size of a grain of sand. Too small for me, anyway. eBay shopping again.

Hi,
no one has tested the code that I uploaded to my git.
there are some things that I must fix, but if no one help me to test it, is more dificult. because now I have not to much time to do it, but with yours help I can do it.

Can I build it and try on a real F4? I plan to add support for my module to F4 anyways (adds real filesystem and 4-in-1 module).

I has not put the changes to the F4..
all the code are into F7, but the code is exactly the same for F4, if you what, you can copy the files to theF4 .

Why is your project has no connection to the DeviationTX/deviation? Is it not a clone? Then it is harder to compare the changes and put code back into the main project.

my project is a fork of the original, because my devoF7 has more memory like the original, but there are only one thing that is different to the official (the memory config).
mustn't be hard to compare with original
