I recently modded my Devo 10 with the NRF24 and A7105 and did a video about it. The actual mod starts at 08:15.

I would like to add a graphic I put together to help with installing the XL7105-D03 and NRF24L01 modules. I found an excellent hand written diagram for the install and decided to clean it up a little. Hope it all makes sense.

Thanks for that ! Good stuff, abit of colour for the different lines would make it easier to look at.

I'll check to see if the software I used has that option. I didn't even think of that.

This is sweet and clean. Nice work! I think it's important to note that this wiring is for the 4.0.1 Release version. Later nightly releases use different wiring for the A7105, connecting GIO1 to TXEN and GIO2 to RXEN. These changes enable better power management as well as telemetry on the A7105 (when the protocol supports it). Also GIO1 is pin 6, GIO2 is pin 7 on the A7105.

Here is the 4.0.1 Version. I will do a second for nightly builds.

Devo 10 install for NRF24L01 and XL7105-D03 on 4.0.1 nightly.

EDIT: I keep finding small errors. Should be good now.

No, in the nightly supported approach, we don't tie the TXEN and RXEN to Vcc and GND. In the nightlies, the A7105 uses GIO1 to turn on/off TX enable and GIO2 to turn on/off the RX enable. This allows toggling between TX and RX modes, which isn't possible if you tie them high and low statically like we do in 4.0.1 approach.

No, the gio1 goes only to txen and the gio2 goes only to rxen. No connection to vcc and gnd anymore.

Edit: sorry Deal57, i was writing while you were posting. didn't see that.

No, for this nightly layout of XL7105 cut VCC & GND for these four pins.
I was too late...

Your wiring diagram looks really good now... thanks for taking the time to make it and posting it. I checked with some other fairly resent installations and everything seems the same but after testing a DEVO 10 with Deviation loaded without the A7105 and NRF24 modules to make sure the OS was stable I wanted to also make sure this wiring diagram is still current with the latest nightly build before installing them. I loaded the March 13 2016 nightly and all went smooth after finding the correct driver but sure wish they had a readme file attached so you know what's going on with the changes.. LOL. Deviation has improved and changed so much in the last few years that there's a ton of old outdated information still out there as the different wiring diagrams show to shuffle through and figure out.

So I take it this wiring configuration supports the latest nightly as of 3/27/2016 correct? Thanks again ... everything seems pretty straight forward.

Oh BTW... does anyone know if the DEVO 10 is made using leaded or unleaded solder? Haven't opened it up yet to take a look to keep the warranty sticker in place until tested.

If you have a can of starting fluid (ether based) for a car, spray a tad around the edges of the tamper-proof sticker, wait a few seconds, then spray again. You can then remove the sticker easily. After the ether evaporates, the sticker still has adhesive on it, stick it to a piece of waxed paper, then you can slap it back in place when needed.

Used to use the old spray ether trick to ski for free by getting a ticket from somebody leaving the slopes for the day. Spray the lift ticket, remove from the snipped metal bale wire, slap the lift ticket onto a new bale wire, and go skiing.

The schematic says to connect Devo TMS to SCK of the NRF24L01 and Devo TCK to CSN of the A7105, but in the video its the other way around.
Which one is it?

Neither. I think you glitched bit. SCK is wired to SCK on all modules. TMS and TCK always get wired to CSN on a single module. You can wire either one to either module, as which it's wired to is configured in hardware.ini.

Do not ask me questions via PM. Ask in the forums, where I'll answer if I can.

Thanks for this i used this on my devo 10 along with a diagram using the v977 stock TX board. Unfortunatly i made a bit of a mess of soldering onto the tiny board and it didnt work.

got an nrfl2401 module but no pa, it worked but terrible range.

I now have a proper module with shielding and PA + external antenna :-)

noticed that it looks like the headers on the board are the same as the devo module. Is it possible to simply remove the stock module and put the nrfl2401 in its place? Im not using the stock module for now as i only have v877.

Though maybe i should just do the work as i will be flying a copterx soon and using dms protocl.

No, you can not!!
Not only the pins are different, they also use different voltages.

Thanks for the info, i just installed it as normal as a seperate module.

On a side note, it seems that if you accidentally connect one of the aux knobs chasis to the nrf24l01 arial ground, the devo 10 shuts of when you turn the knob up full.

I had to remove the metal sticker otherwise it did that, also the aux knob wouldnt work either.
