how to arm motors on a king kong gt90 was created by Chrome Dome
Okay guys... helllp... i am trying to set a toggle in order to arm the motors on my king kong gt90. it has dms2 receiver f3 dof6 fc. I am using a devo 10 black. this is all being done in beta flight. I set channel 5 (gear) as simple in the mixer but in beta flight all i have is aux 1,2 or 3. please advise. thank you

If your switch on your transmitter affects any of the aux channels in betaflight then you have to set the arm mode in betaflight to the aux channel number of the corresponding switch.
If you flip your switch on your transmitter and aux2 shows the value changing then set the arm mode in betaflight to aux2 and whatever position value you want it to arm at.
Throttle must always be zero before betaflight allows arming.

Unfortunately none of the switches are registering. Also i have yet to get to 0 when calibrating the sticks. Very frustrating

Have you configured a switch to a channel in the mixer menu?

Gear is usually aux1, which corresponds to channel 5 in Deviation. You can see if it is transmitting in the Deviation Transmitter menu, channel monitor. If you don't see movement there, use the RT+ button to view the input monitor and verify that the switch is registering. If you are seeing movement on the right channel, then CF/BF will see Aux1 moving on the receiver screen. If that's not happening, you need to work on the receiver binding, and make sure you have enough channels (at least 6).
Your Devo channel should be set up with a 1-1 or min-max curve.
If all that is right, make sure you have the range of channels 1-4 set correctly - betaflight wants to see 1000-2000. Look at the betaflight CLI rxrange command.
There are a number of discussion threads if you search for Cleanflight and betaflight.

Everything is set correctly now. But, here's an unusual update..... the motors will now power up when I turn off the devo 10 transmitter (with deviation). Any clues?

Check Failsafe settings in betaflight. Always test failsafe with blades removed!

yup. failsafe is right on target. very strange. the motors won't arm but the rx and betaflight shows them to arm. the motors will run when testing the esc's. then when it turn off the rx boom. they spin up

This still sounds like a failsafe problem... but maybe it's something else.
Try to rule out failsafe. What range do you see for the TAER values in the Receiver screen? From that screen do the values change when you power off the TX? Have you set up failsafe values in the transmitter model?
If it's not that, it's beyond me right now. I personally would recreate the scenario... sometimes the problem goes away faster when I start over
