Can DSM2 be improved? was created by John-Boy
Hi,
DSM2 has a few flaws
1st - The protocol uses a 'fixed' pair of 2.4ghz channels and does not 'hop channels' while it is being used. If both of these channels get 'blanked' or interferred with we loose control of the model. This has been changed in many newer protocols and there is nothing that can be changed here for DSM2.
2nd - Once it is powered up and bound to its receiver, it is fixed on (2) 2.4 ghz channels that could be chosen adjacent to each other. Much easier to 'blank' thanks to all the new 2.4ghz devices that could transmit across several adjacent 2.4ghz channels at the same time.
To improve on the 2nd situation above, could the DSM2 transmitter protocol be modified so that after the initial, power-up, open, bind channel has been chosen that the backup, redundent, 2nd 2.4ghz channel is always at least 5 or 10 channels away?
Let me know what you think?
John L.

Why do you want to "improve" it?
You would definitely loose compatibility, and if you want a hopping protocol, there is DSMX for that...

I did not propose to change DSM2 to freq hopping.
I proposed fixing a problem to improve perfomance. I dont think I'm the only one with DSM2 equipment. They are still sold and work fine unless you get 'blanked' by an poorly implemented 2.4ghz device.
The change would be in the 2nd channel selection. To insure the transmitter selected a 2nd, fixed channel at least 5 to 10 channels away. No hopping.
Both channels still fixed, still compatable with existing hardware, minor change (maybe?) to the existing transmitter protocol.

OK, I see.
AFAIK only early DSM2 implementations selected both channels too close together, however I don't know how deviation implements the channel selection...
