I didn't even know about the F8S, but the difference is night and day.

Why do you need a fw for yours?

Does the TX use a smartphone as a display through WiFi?
Did you change it in the TX menu?
If so, then it is only a setting stored somewhere in flash, and a fw upgrade won't necessarily overwrite it, so the problem will remain.

Am I right, that now the TX try to send the display info through an 5.8GHz video channel?
Try to find somebody with an FPV display or googles, and change the setting back to WiFi...

No, the TX uses an internal flash chip to store settings or stores them inside the microcontroller's own flash area.
You can't change it directly, only through the user interface.

Were my previous assumptions right about the smartphone as a display?

Kathvings ..... Did you ever get a reset for the controller?
I've got the exact same issue.
I followed the advice from the Walkera website and changed the channels, but the guidance is wrong. It tells you to change Radio 1 channel (which is between the controller and device), when actually it should have had you changing the Radio 2 channel (between the drone and controller).

I have tried several different devices and none of them are picking up the Walkera _Ground wifi signal.
I think the only fix is a Master reset.
Please help.

Eddy
