Skookum SK720 Deviation 10 switch assignment

Hi Everyone- I am trying to hook a Skookum Sk720be to a Devo 10 with deviation firmware on my Walkera V450D03 and am totally stumped. How do I assign the switches for throttle hold, Idle up, etc. I am just coming off a WLtoys V977 so this is very frustrating. I did the switch assignment but it is not working. This is my first time programming a transmitter and I am lost.

How did you do the Switch assignment? In particular, are you using the Advanced GUI or the Standard GUI?

Are you sure you've got the Skookum hooked up properly? If that's not set up right, you'll never get the Tx working properly.

Aileron, elevator etc. are working properly. I am using the standard gui. I can't get the switches to work for my cyclic and tail settings.

What do you mean by "cyclic and tail settings"? Are you talking about pitch and tail gyro?

I normally use the advanced GUI. Frankly, that's where the Power of deviation is. The standard GUI isn't very good, even compare to proprietary firmware.

Have you set up the appropriate throttle, pitch, gyro, D/R, etc? Then which switches they are on are set in the switch assignment setup. By default, they all pretty much use FMODE Throttle hold is on GEAR, and GYRO is on MIX.

if all else fails, plug your Tx into a computer, and copy the model.ini file from the drive and upload it here.

If the DeviationTX manual does not help I would suggest reading over a Spektrum DX8 or DX6 V2 Super manual.

Menus in standard GUI are almost the same and good.

But I also do use the advancerd GUI now even for flybar CCPM.
I setup once a Walkera. V120 in advanced GUI mode.


In menu 12. Switch assignment:
Throttle Hold: Assign it to the Rudd DR.
Flight Mode: Assign it to the F-Mode Switch.
Gyro: Assign it to the F-Mode Switch as well.

In menu 8. Throttle hold:
Hold: ON
Hold Position -100 (thats normal for electric): -100 = 0 throttle


You may want to assign more switches for assigning banks? What channels do you have configured on the SK?


With the Advanced GUI you would be even able to assign Gyro to the F-Mode + Mix 1/2 swicthes and use that with AUX4/5 poti to test for the appropriate exact gyro gain.
Like I have Normal / Rate mode on Mix2.


Combined DualRates on 2 2-way switches:
What I do very much like about the Advanced GUI is, that you can combine 2 2-way D/R switches AIL + ELEV to a 3-way DualRate.
So you can change D/R settings for ELEV+AIL+RUDD together on 2 switches.

I do not like the F-Mode switch (suggestion because of 3-way in the Simple GUI) for changing DualRates. That's more for different throttle curves and pitches...


Have you tested the channel monitor yet?

Did you find the template button in the model setup?
Are there model.ini files on the forum for your SK yet?

Basically thats correct, at least for DE/EU to run DSM2 at 10mw (if you do not have a genuine Spektrum TX with a declaration of of conformity).DSM2 seem to have 10mhz channel width.
2 channel DSM2 is pretty here dead (for new transmitters) starting 01/01/2015 because of ETSI V1.8.1.

Not sure about fixed_id. I remove that always, so None on my setup for DSMx.

What Spektrum receiver do you use?
Do you only use Spektrum satellites and no full standard receiver?

I would try to get a AR6210 + sat + TM1000/TM1100 or AR8000 + sat + TM1000/TM1100.
With my setup I have DSMx telemetry (Spektrum FlightLog) set to on.

Wrong. Needs to be -100 for electric, if -100 = 0 for your ESC (min point).
If you bind with -110, thats your failsafe value and your motor WILL SPIN even the throttle stick is down!!!

Maybe the switches are little bit mixup, e.g ELEV D/R switch for a throttle curve??
I always assign throttle curve or fixed values to the F-mode switch. That (longer) switch is there just for that.
Maybe I am misinterpreting your text modell.ini without import into my Devo10.


But hard to tell if you are on the right track without knowing what you want to achieve, like what switches you assign to which SK720 functions.

Note that this depends on your ESC. Some will work properly with those high safety values, some won't. In particular, some Blade Qx quads need the throttle to be < -100 in order to shut the motors off. So you have to set the safety value to values like -110 or -125 in order to get the motors to shut off with the switch.

But as a general rule, set the safety value to -100, and only go lower if that has problems, because your ESCs may well do what Thomas says. I'm not sure if fuel is different.

Yeah, that is weird, unless you're trying to do three modes with two two-way switches. But there's no third mixer on this channel. Which makes it really weird, because it means that if you set GEAR0 and ELE DR1, you'll get a sticky throttle, which could be dangerous.

Generally, you should always set the switch for the first mixer on a channel to None, then set the rest to the switches to enable those modes. So you'd use None + GEAR1, which would make GEAR0 use the first mixer by default. There are some cases where you want the first mixer to not be None, but those are advanced.
