Devo7 Range (with Walkera Rodeo 150) was created by problemchild
Hi
Recently bought a Walkera Rodeo 150 which comes ready to fly with a Devo7
I practiced on the drive and got to grips
I then took it out to the field and after 20m the Rodeo climbed uncontrollably until it was at 200ft with zero response from the Devo7 inputs
I then switched off the Tx and the Rodeo fell to earth
So the reason for this seems to be a range problem. I have carried out a range test and its sub 20m.
you can hear the Rodeo beeping as it loses connection
I have replaced the Rx board on the Rodeo but still the same issue
It can only be linked to the Tx
I have checked the antenna connection and that seems ok
Tx antenna is at 90degs
Please help
This was the result of a rather large freefall...

I don't know exactly what help you are looking for. I am sorry to hear when a good aircraft fails, and I know how frustrating it feels. That being said, simply put, it is critical to conduct a range test for the intended location and equipment before flying.
The Devo 7 is not capable of using the Deviation software, so I expect you may not get many responses on this board. But I think we all can sympathize. With any transmitter, while it is unusual to get such short range, it is pretty common. It could of course be a problem with the transmitter, but there are many environmental issues that could also affect your signal, and competing wifi or other 2.4ghz interference is common. Additonally, your equipment must be properly asembled and functional. For example, your transmitter and aircraft battery should be fully charged and the antennae should be properly attached and oriented for the conditions.
It's too late to prevent your accident and again I sympathize. I hope you can get flying again soon.

Does anyone know if the DEVO-RX716 Receiver has diversity? Otherwise this antenna setup does not make sense.

It looks like it has RF switch (between antennas), so it is some type of diversity.

Walkera receivers usually do have true diversity: they have two independent CYRF chip for the two antennas.
It was that way even in the old Walkera receivers like the RX-2801 Pro...

thanks for the info so far - sorry if i'm on the wrong forum (oops)
thats the Rx board I have and have tried 2
the aerials sit on the Rodeo at 90deg to each other with exposed ends
I have no issues with my other 2.4ghz systems on my 4 tamiya RC cars in this area but its v hard to test range normally with a Tx as they are normally in excess of 100m easy.

Keep them up as straight as possible, possibly a bit tilt back.
And how did you set the antenna on the transmitter? Did you check inside if the wire still good connected to the module?
