I never liked the too big antenna on my Devo 10 so decided to mod it.

1. Removed the stock antenna (together with the pigtail).
2. Dremel the stub flush with the case. Used the disc perpendicular on the hole after the cut to even the surface a bit.
3. Use a u.FL to SMA pigtail (10cm, the shortest I had)
4. Choose one of the 2dbi, 3dbi or 5dbi antennas I had laying around.

Range even improved a bit, I got 43 paces (~35m) with the 2dbi antenna using a DSMX sat as receiver, at 100uW, horizontal polarization.

I like how you did this.

I might copy you since I broke my antenna and walkera is asking for 5 USD for new one plus 28 USD P&P.

However I'm not sure I can pull it off as I don't own a dremel. I'll have to either buy one or come up with a different way to cut the plastic.

The bit that goes inside the Radio, did you screw it to the PCB or solder?

It would be nice to have a selection of antennas to chose from, according to occasion 2db to 7db :)

I'm doing some reading after my post and now have a few questions

What impedance should the replacement antenna have?

Left or Right hand polarization?

Neither. Linear. These are linear antennas, which can be seen from the fact that they're a straight line.
Impendance is 50 Ohms.

Thanks.

I'm trying to learn about this topic to make sure I do the right thing.

How did you come up with the value for antenna impedance?

50 ohms is standard for these types of antennas and applications.

Finally did a variation of this mod using the 3d printed adapter available at www.thingiverse.com/thing:1150847

I broke the antenna a few months ago and was asked $5.00 + $28.00 ( shipping cost by UPS ) for a replacement so this is much cheaper and more convenient.

Took around 5m to open the TX, replace pigtail and install 3d printed bit.
