NOOB question about nightly build install. was created by avroarrow4ever
Hi all, just got my Devo10 and have installed the 4.01 then the 1705 nightly build. I just copied all the support files over the 4.01 ones. Should I have reformated the TX and "fresh" copied the files? Everything (from what I can tell) works well, and I can bind to my blade CX's.

Also, this may sound like a silly question, what is the major difference between the base 4.01 and the nightly build, and which one do most people use. Thanks.

Going to the nightly should be transparent if you haven't modded your transmitter. If you have, you'll want to check on the new config file hardware.ini which describes such mods. Some of that is in tx.ini in 4.0.1.

4.0.1 is adds support for the multimodule and more protocols with the existing modules. It also includes some bug fixes & display tweaks. I run 4.0.1 on my 6s with no extra modules, and the team deviationTx nightly on my 10 with a multimodule in it.

The team deviationTx build is mostly more of the same as the nightly, but PhracturedBlue is apparently on sabbatical, so it's collecting changes form various other developers so we have fixes and enhancements from multiple people in a single build.

Hey MWM, thanks for the reply. I plan on adding the two additional modules to the devo. I have the CC2500 PA LNA and XL7105-D03 modules. I'm just waiting for the rest of the parts to arrive (bought some jumper wires and ant's, etc). Anyways, if I plan on using the various protocols out there which deviation should I use, the base/official one, or the nightly? Thanks again.

I'd use the last official release if you can. In other words, unless you are using a multimodule or need a protocol that's in the nightlies but not 4.0.1.

Thanks again MWM for the advice! For someone like myself who is new to the Devo world, there is a lot to process! :woohoo:

Hi guys, just question, I have installed Deviation 4.0.1 on my DEVO 10 and wondering to install nightly (due to some improvements in range).

So by the "modded" tx you mean the deviation already installed, or something else?
Thank you in advance.

modded means any soldering you've done inside the Tx.
There is a new mechanism in the nightly builds that tells the software what mods you've done.

Thank you, PhracturedBlue, for both responses. So I will wait for the official release and will fly my heli in proper distance, not so far and not so close.
Thank you again.

Are the mods being referred to internal to the transmitter the multi-module mods?

Or are there other internal mods that aren't part of a multi-module modification? Potentiometer mods, switch mods, etc...? I'd be interested in knowing about more mods.

Thanks!

Yes, switch level mods are supported. These are most frequently targeted at the devo7e to add extra switches. I'm sure someone here can point you at threads about them, or try searching for 3x2 or 2x2. Now that they have official support, they'll be documented as part of the next release as well.

Devo 7e switches in the nightly build?

That explains a lot. Tried to get a couple working in one of mine last night and got nowhere...

Thanks, and thanks to all for what you're doing here.

I'm about to do the NRF module mod and from what i hear i need to install the nighly for some addded features.

I've looked all over for instructions on how to install the nightly but couldn't find any. Can someone link or tell me the way to install it? I currently have the latest official version on my 7E.

You install the nightly build the same way you install a release. Use the DFuse tool to install the .dfu, then copy the file system over. Knowing what might have changed that you need to be aware of - I don't think there's an official mechanism for that yet.
