I guess it is possible they used a different version of the LCD driver, but it seems unlikely. taking a piicture of the LCD chip inside might help.
You could also try using 'verify' to check the devo12-lib.dfu was uploaded properly (make sure to use a freshly unzippped copy to verify (note, you can't verify the firmware, only the library)

I checked the manual for the S1D13517, and the 1.5 manual says:
A transparency function is available for image data writes. When enabled, input image data matching a specified
key color is not written to the memory. This function can be used to overwrite text and icons in display data. This
function can not be used with rotation and mirror function, the REG[52h] bits 3-0 never be set to the value 9h,
Ah and Bh.
We normally set '52h=0x0b' and it has always worked in the past. So it looks like Epson may have made a minor revision and something that used to work no longer does.
The good news is that I am sure this can be worked around. The bad news is that I have no idea how yet. The reason we use flipped images is because the bmp format is drawn from the bottom to top. I will need to do some experimentation to figure out a reasonable solution.

It will have all the images flipped upside down, but if the white boxes are gone and the fonts are readable, it at least will prove that my analysis is correct.
Edit: FYI, if that does work, we can easily build you a custom filesystem with flipped BMP files so you can use Deviation while I work on a proper fix.

Try this:

If you still don't see the fonts, I will need to do some investigation to figure out what is wrong which might take some time.

I want to make sure it looks as I expect.
I will then give you 2 other builds to see if they change anything. I need to know which changes I made are making it work.
