What can I expect from my cc2500 module on devo 7e

Hello everyone,

I'm really glad deviation tx exist, I love my devo 7e more than all. I did the range and 2*3 switch modes and for me the options available on this transmitter are more than enough and I'm not planning to buy a other one.
But I recently experienced a few lost of signal flying my 250 racer quad only 50 m away from me, it lasted only a quarter of second and I never crashed but still I not feeling very confident with that. For informations I use a dsm2 spektrum receiver (110xl from hobbyking).

I read a few topics about the Frsky protocol and everyone seems happy with its efficiency. So I decided to buy this cc2500 module
My question is, will my devo 7e signal wiil be as good as the taranis with this kind of module.
I'm planning to buy a x4r receiver and binded with the taranis the say it can reach 1.5Km. Will I get the same range with my devo 7e?

Thanks!

No, noone has ever tried this module from banggood?

This module works well in my 10 but I've never done a full-range test. Range is mainly dependent on antenna type and placement. On the 7e power is also a concern and a separate power supply is recommended for the module. With good installation and quality antenna mounted externally and positioned well, range should be comparable to what "they say" can be reached with Taranis. I use an internal antenna set horizontally near the top of the case and had no issues within 150m.

I have read a bit around the problems with the power supply, and I have read as well that some people were able to run the module without power supply modification but there is not much around it on the net...
150m is not really good enough for me, i'm doing FPV and it's really easy to go over 300-400m in a few seconds.
The module I bought is made the be hooked to an external antenna so maybe it's bit more powerful than the internal version, who knows!
I was hopping someone would tell me yeah it work as good as a taranis but maybe I should just buy one.
But thanks anyway and i'm gonna keep seeking for answers cause I like my devo and taranis is big and expensive!

I am using this module at my 7e with a swivel 2dBm antenna. With 100mW powersetting it is good for nearly 600m.
Did not use 150mW because it is a waste of batterie life and for my flying area it is just enough. If this is the only additional
rf module there is no need for a powermod. The whole transmitter draws 170-180mA.

Edit: ...my DFT gives more range.

Hey! yeah 600m sound really great to me!
Are you happy with the signal strength of this module/ protocol. I have experienced a few drops of signal using dsm2 protocol, it last only a quarter of a second but still noticeable on the screen and I don't want to injure anyone with my quad. I'm hopping to get better results with frsky...
I just read a topic from this forum saying that relaying on the onboard 3.3v power supply is lottery, apparently it can only supply 100mah while the cc2500 is sucking 150 mah, but if you don't use it full power I guess it's alright.
I have a WK-DEVO-S module for more range, so I guess i'm gonna go for the pololu mod just for safety.

Look at the second video....170 to 180mA for the WHOLE transmitter. At 1mW output it is only 140 mA. At 150mW it wil suck 190-200mW, sorry, but no video on that.
You will only have to keep your Vbat above 5V. I am using my battery only from 5.7 down to 4.9 V.

Edit: The LDO is a 150mA rated one with peek on 300mA. But for 4 to 6 minutes fllght time it seems to be ok.
The Devo module is in sleep mode, so it does not count.

Ok well then no power modification needed, that's good to know!
What receiver did you use to get 600m range i'm planning to get the x4r it looks like a good receiver with telemetry and all the lot.
Tanks anyway for your time guys, it's such precious informations that I can get from this forum.

One of my first batch F802 receivers from BG (firmware from midelic) .D8:..pwm/ppm/Sbus non inv/ hub telemetry/ rssi/A1/A2 on IO pins (rssi also transmittet on CH9 to the FC..
With my old Futaba FC18+ and a DFT I was out at 900m with this.receiver when I had some video dropouts and better
returned. home....far enough for little 250.
I have to note, this was a firmware test and I always kept the optimal polarization on both antennas.(vertical)

Edit: I hope we will get some real range tests for the X protocol soon.

I regularly fly my 220 quad to <350-400m with my 7E with zero issues at all. I've done a low power range test to 600m (I believe on the 30mW setting) at which time I was across my field and my neighbors field when I couldn't walk any further!

yeah that sound really promising, I'm looking forward to give it a try.
I will send some feedback using the x4r wen I get it!

Make sure you set your fine frequency! That test was before (with +/-0) I learned how, I should test again but I already ran out of walking room so I'll have to test at an even lower power since it's probably even better now.

Ok most of the people said they didn't need to do it with this module, but ok I ll look for a tuto to find how to do it.
cheers!

EVERY module needs fine tuned, that's the nature of Chinese electronics...

Many users don't realize since the vast majority works fine at +/-0 but for some of us "fine" isn't good enough... We want the best possible range / data link and for that setting the fine frequency is absolutely required!

It doesn't take 5 minutes, even if you're in the "I don't need maximum range" category just do it for piece of mind...

From a topic on rcgroups:

"best way is to adjust freq-fine in increments of 20 until it binds, write down the number it binds at. keep incrementing by 20 until it wont bind, write down that number, then set freq fine to the middle range of the 2 numbers. ie it first binds at +20 and stops binding again at +90, set freq-fine to +55"

Is it a good way to tune it or there are more accurate ways?

Is you 7E an ultimate?

If yes there's a better way (using extended telemetry values only present in the U7e), if it's a standard 7e then the method you've quoted is best.

My usable range is -80 to +30 so the middle is - 25 however using LQI (extended telemetry) I learned the most perfect I could get it is at - 33 so that's what I run

No it isn't, I've just discovered this mod though, I read the topic and I need to practice on hot gun soldering/desoldering with old motherboard that I have. What difference do you get from this mod I thought the devo 7e was quite good already, no?

With the standard 7e there's only room for "receiver telemetry", that's analog voltage and rssi, with the U7e you have full smart port telemetry...

Ok I will see later for this mod but it looks really cool, I'm really impressed by all the work you guys have done so far you're genius to me, even though i'm not really into programming, it makes me want to learn!
