extra-switches on Devo7e not recognized was created by enordaton
Using Devo7e with Deviation 5.0 Installed 2 ON OFF ON 3way toggles using instuctions from the wiki by straferr. Used 1n4148 diodes with band toward switch. followed wiring per wiki. edit hardware ini with notepad++ to read extra-switches=3x2. cannot see switches in monitor. Checked diodes with meter ok and checked wiring for shorts and continuity. What is next step?

Most common mistake: Did you forget to remove the colon (";") in front of extra-switches?

Thanks for response. Followed instructions very carefully, which included removing semicolon in hardware ini. Very frustrating. have searched forum also to see others with same problem. those delt with not using right diodes or the hardware statement. Can't figure this one out.

We'll solve it, don't worry.
1.) Do SW A0-2 and SW B0-2 appear in channel monitor (second page, scrolled down)?
2.) if yes, please post pictures of your wiring and soldering job

If the original switches are the only ones in the scroll down, then the hardware.ini file isn't right.

If you post a copy of it, we can figure out what's wrong.

hmm..both soldering and ini content look fine to me, and I'm sure the ini is not named "hardware2.ini" when copied to the tx, or is it?

Did you by any chance use notepad instead of notepad++ to edit the file? I thought the issues with not being able to read files edited by notepad had been fixed, but maybe not.

Yes, I saw that, but I don't understand yet.
His file looks OK, but I see CrLf in all the ini files in my Windows based development environment.
Would somebody with a Linux system validate, if he has CrLf or simple Lf at the line endings of those files in his git repository?

Actually this in on my workplace machine, I think I don't have this problem at home.
It would also explain why I can't compile languages on this machine...

OK, I found that the repository defines the line endings very loosely:
* text=auto
src/libopencm3/scripts/* eol=lf
*.pl eol=lf
*.py eol=lf

It means, that all our other then .pl and .py text file endings are automatically converted on checkout to the OS defaults, in my case CrLf on Windows.
It is dangerous, because if I compile, all my ini files in the resulting zip file reserve that CrLf line endings!
Shouldn't we change that definition, so to make all the files have Lf line endings?

Do somebody use an editor on Windows, which doesn't support the unix style line endings?
There shouldn't be any...
