Connecting Transmitter to PC for remote control

Hi there,
my plan is to connect my devo 10 with deviationtx to my pc and use it as a transmitter.
my aim is to control my quadcopter with mouse and keyboard.
I'd like to use the wsad keys for pitch and roll, my mouse for yaw and the mouse wheel for throttle
Has anyone tried something like this before? and what is the best way to get startet?

Personally I don't think the actual control system will work for a quad; your keyboard will only be hard 100% throws, whereas a tx stick control has variable outputs, meaning you can give a little roll or a lot of roll. Unless you had a software system that incremented the amount of throw over time, eg. start at 10% and increase by 10% every 0.2seconds the key is held down (or something along those lines). Also I reckon your mouse wheel will get a hell of a workout and you'll get a cramped scroll-finger, as you typically need to be continuosly adjusting throttle to keep things steady for hovering (if there's no altitude-hold).

Interface-wise, I'm guessing it would have to be PPM-out from the computer, possibly through the audio output? I honestly don't know if the USB connection can operate in both directions for controls.

Yeah.. this is a recipe for disaster. If the copter is flying towards your face, you don't want to have to hammer a key 50x to make it stop.

Note that this has been done - though not with deviation that I know of. Read about it on rcgroups: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1207253 . The idea should work fine on deviation, though.

As noted, simple keyboard control is a bad idea. Getting into the keyboard and responding to holding down keys would work better.

Personally, I was interested in recording a flight and then playing it back, just for grins. But I've found more productive things to work on since then.

In the end, found it again.. Devo and Deviation.

PC > DEVO8 > Minicp... & USB HID (Logitech G940)..
PPM signal from soundcard to tx. Input via USB controller.
