Getting the Walkera Devo7e working with the Align 3GX MRS and Deviation software
This post is because my friend and I who know little 3D on walkera copters advanced to the Align 250 spent two days getting this to work and didn't find any much info on google to help us. Hopefully someone searching google will find this.
What you need
An align copter with 3GX MRS.
NOTE: MRS is not a 3GX (we didn't know this)
Spektrum DSMX Remote Receiver (called satellite receiver)
NOTE: MRS does not have a DSMX reciever in it, took us hours to figure this out so we had to order this.
Devo7e with Deviation software installed. There is a trick to installing for the 7e check the docs.
Install Remote Receiver
- Flip copter
- Remove gear
- Install DSMX remote receiver in the ANT port on the copter
- Remove 3 blue cables to motor
Binding
-Remove throttle servo cable from 3gx and put it in the rudder port.
-Put the bind plug in the rudder port
NOTE: You will be using DSM2 mode, DSMX we couldn't get to work.
- On the DEVO model menu change the GUI to SIMPLE
NOTE: may not be needed, but the ui is easier, we only saw it bind in this mode
- On the DEVO model menu change protocol to DSM2
- On the DEVO model menu change Fixed ID to 987654
- On the DEVO model menu change channels to 7
NOTE: this number we got to work, you can use variations but 987XXX seems to be ok, others did not work and caused hours of pain
On the copter power it on (remember to have the bind plug in the throttle port)
the spektrum remote receiver should flash
- On the DEVO model menu press enter on BIND. the spektrum remote receiver should turn off for 3 seconds then come back on steady.
Remove the bind plug from the copter.
- Power cycle the controller. The copter servos should twitch and you are ready to go and setup etc (of course put it back together)
If this fails, do everything over and change the Fixed ID number.

Great, this is much appreciated.
I am however still worried that we are losing or have lost the traditional RC pilots, flying 50-700 size heli's. The majority of discussions on the Deviation forum is around support for smaller "toy" RC models rather than models flown by serious hobbyists.
I hope to shortly post models and a config for a Align Trex 250DFC with 3GX v4 using Spektrum DSMX satellite receivers.

RM I just finished building up a Gartt GT500 DFC and will be using my Deviation Devo10 to fly it with OrangeRX DSMX satellites. Everything is working as expected on the bench so will be able to maiden soon.
So you can count me as one of the people getting more serious and still wanting to use my Devo10 now that it has a proper firmware on it.
I too think that some of the design decisions made on the Taranis makes it a slightly inferior product to a modified Devo10/8/12 TX. About the only thing I would have loved to have that OpenTX and the Taranis hardware provides is voice prompts. Much easier to keep focus on the heli when you don't have to look down every once in a while to see what the setting are.

Really ?
One isn't a serious hobbyist if he isn't into big "TOYS"?
Hasn't it occurred to you that some people can't (money wise) or won't (security wise) fly big machines ?
Even tough I don't fly big toys (because they are toys after all, if you don't use them for others things than recreation) I consider myself like a serious hobbyist, and I know a lot of other people would agree.
Cheers mate
