Syma X11 config

As some of us are now successfully controlling our X11 quads with Deviation modded Devo controllers using the SymaX protocol, I went looking for an official "model config" thread here. Sorry if one ALREADY exists, in which case this should go there. But I couldn't find one, so I'm starting one.


I have a config. file working for the X11 (actually I have two), thanks to what Durete posted in "Devo 7e models" about five weeks ago. But following the rules here (which make good sense), I thought I'd start a place that focuses on the X11 variants ONLY.

Likewise, since the X12 quads work on the SymaX protocol too, we should create a separate thread for that particular model (even though the config files will probably be nearly 100% interchangeable).

If you're wondering, some icons for the X11 are posted over in the icons for Devo 7E/10 thread (B&W LoRes icons).

Right now I'm wondering if/how the config. file could be changed to produce better Yaw/Rudder.

I've posted my slight variation on Durete's file. Make sure you specify in the third line (or so) an icon you have in your "modelico" folder. The config. file version I'm uploading as "model1.ini" refers to an icon I created. Durete I think is using another one (a good one too). Neither are stock/default icons.

I'm gonna check again, but I think yesterday I got better yaw rate using another config, created on the Devo7, that uses "template=simple" for the channels (I'm uploading that one as "model3.ini") If that's true, the difference probably lies ways the curves are defined in the two (or three) different config. files.

9.15 Protocol: SymaX

This protocol is used on Syma models: X5C-1, X11, X11C, X12, new X4, and new X6. A variant supporting the original X5C and the X2 is included as a protocol option (the Syma X3, old X4, and old X6 are supported with the SymaX4 option in the YD717 protocol). See the Supported Modules spreadsheet for a complete list.

NOTE: This protocol requires the addition of a ‘NRF24L01+’ hardware module to function. Note the "plus" version of the nRF device is required to support the 250kbits/s data rate. See the following document for more information: www.deviationtx.com/repository/Documenta...uleInstallation.pdf/

The SymaX protocol supports 7 channels and only supports auto-binding.

• The first four channels represent Aileron, Elevator, Throttle, and Rudder.
• The fifth channel is unused.
• The sixth channel enables the auto-flip function when greater than zero.
• The seventh channel takes a picture when the channel moves from negative to positive.
• The eighth channel starts/stops video recording on each positive transition.

That yaw is incredible. However, on both my X5C-1 and X11 they both go leftwards and also turn slightly clockwise. Trimming does not seem to fix this as well.
Edit: I believe I fixed this with a stick calibration, sorry I am brand new to this stuff.

I was going to redirect you to an X5 config thread, then I could not find one.

I really can't help much with the X5. The one I "have" I actually gave to my nephew... out of state. I have read up on the X5, but I have not tried to use my Devo7E with it. So zero direct Deviation TX experience with it. I could only make general comments about the SymaX protocol.

Plus, such discussion would better take place in a separate X5 config. thread anyway. So I think I'll got start one. Yes, the config. file for all the Syma X5, X11, and X12 should be very similar, but invariably there will be comments made specific to one model or another. Again, comments are best made in threads for that specific model's config. file.

As far as technical assistance with an X5, there are various threads on topics for that quad scattered around. Try a search on "Syma X5" or similar. Best regards.

Thanks for the reply. Just curious, is there a way to configure the FMOD switch to change between fast and slow modes? Because I find the current config too fast when taking video but excellent for fast/stunt flying. I think someone else answered this question in another thread but I would also like to make the EXT or ENT buttons to be used for flipping as opposed to using the HOLD switch. I've read the tutorial supplied for ini files but it is still confusing how to accomplish this.

Just got my first Devo 7e working with Deviation. Very cool. It works with the JJR1000. But I can't figure out how to get the Syma X11 to auto-bind.

How do you do it? My Cheerson CX-10 doesn't want to bind either. I guess I only know how to do a manual bind.

Got the X11 working. Nice. Suspect I've got the wrong version of the CX-10.

How did you get it to auto-bind?

I have a strange issue with the Syma protocol. I just recently installed the nrf24l01 module for my Devo 7e and I followed the hacksmods tutorial here:

I was able to install and configure the firmware with no problem. However my X11 has bizarre erratic response. My commands are delayed and sometimes it outright doesn't respond in mid flight often flying right into a wall or ceiling because it lost input. But I can bind and fly the new JJ1000 and CG023 and those are two different protocols. I have absolutely no problems flying them. I maintained a constant hover with no lag or delay or drop out for 3 batteries worth of testing on BOTH quads. (3 flights a piece, 6 minute flights). I flashed one of the more recent nightly builds (i think 10/25/15). I've checked my soldering/connections and I have fresh batteries. I do not understand why the Syma X11 has bad response and two other protocols work fine. Any advise will be helpful. The nrf24l01 I'm using is not the banggood one. I got one that has an internal antenna on the circuit board.

Seems like your module is fine. How new is the X11? Syma is fond of tweaking their protocols. The behavior you describe could be explained by a protocol difference such as using a different method for choosing RF channels. The only way I can think to confirm would be to get SPI captures from your stock tx.

The SymaX protocol doesn't depend on receiving anything from the quad so a radio problem does not seem likely.

Well, I have more problems rising up now. For example. My cg023 and JJ1000 do not fly far at all..so I've done something wrong.

The Syma X11 is the first quad I flew with my Devo 7e when I got it. The quad was okay to start with, but the 7e made it an exceptional flier. I recently ordered another X11 since my first one has a lot of miles on it. Haven't received it yet. Hope the protocol change isn't too messy.

I do wonder why they bother making changes to quads that are already selling well. No new features were announced as far as I can tell.

Perhaps they don't like being reverse-engineered. :-/

You did say your module has the on-board antenna. They are decidedly much shorter range. The modules with the external antenna usually have additional amplification. Check out the banggood units ...

I didn't check the forum but then I knew I had problems I immediately knew what I did wrong.

PLEASE ONLY GET THE BANGGOOD NRF24L01 MODEL!!

Wait a month and don't be impatient. I bought two from America that had faster shipping. One module stated it had a 1,000 meter range. Well, it drops data packets at any range and sent my quadcopters straight into walls and ceilings (I flew inside just in case I had a run-away). Then I got one with a built in antenna, and that little guy went 30 feet and then I lost signal. Ultimately, it was a waste of money to get similar modules. I just got my Banggood NRF24L01 module and everything works fine. Range is good. Syma X11 does not drop out. I hope this helps someone who is new to this. Not all modules work. If it looks any different than the one that is from Banggood, it will not work. If you are not sure, get it from Banggood. It will work. Don't take shortcuts, just wait. Save money. Go fly a kite.

Firstly, I have to state that I only started learning about quad stuff and Deviation about a month ago. And big up to all you guys to feed my tinkering addiction, what a way to soend the snowy nights soldering
However, when I switch to high rates on my Devo 10, the rudder channel outputs zero. With low rates, the rudder works well. Any ideas on ehat could cause this?

Most likely a problem with your model config/ini file.

Config notes:
My version, cobbled together from a JJRC JJ-1000 config from peanut man.

Three rate modes:
FMOD 0
FMOD 1
FMOD 2

Flip mode:
RUD D/R 0 = Flip OFF
RUD D/R 1 = Flip ON when in high rates with FMOD 2

I put your 'Config notes' stuff into the file as comments before I saved a copy.
