Horizon Hobby Sport Cub S for Devo 7e was created by WildDoktor
Hi; I have a Devo 7e with Deviation 5.0 and no hardware mods, and just bought a used Horizon Hobbies Sport Cub S. I'm looking for a model.ini that will allow me to switch between all 3 flight modes, and maybe even the "ohno" button. I found one thread here that discussed this, but only for the Devo 10; there was a suggestion for the 7e to use the ENT button as the "ohno" button; I'd be fine with that.
I do have a small amount of experience with basic Deviation programming (I've setup my Inductrix FPV with help from here, and also setup the tx for FPV FreeRider), but switching thru 3 flight modes with two 2-position switches and also adding dual rates kind of blows my little mind.
Thanks!

Yeah, that's the thread I was talking about. I don't see an ini file, and the discussion is about the devo 10. I'm not sure how to translate that to the 7e.

Adding 2 x 3 position switches is one of the easier mods on a 7e and makes it so much more usable. I also added a push button paralleled to one of the menu nav buttons for convenient "ohno" use.

Thanks Gerry; makes sense, but I'm not keen on doing the hardware mods...just don't have time or money at the moment.
I did find in the Sport Cub S manual that setting up a spectrum tx that only has 2-way switches will net you mode 0 (beginner) and mode 2 (advanced). No intermediate. I think I can live with that. So on the 7e, the Hold switch would be flight modes 0 and 2 (because it looks like flight modes must be on channel 5...can I assign channel 5 to the FMODE switch? That would make more sense...), I can use the FMode switch for dual rates, and then figure out using the ENT button for "ohno".

Yes, any switch can be assigned to any channel/s.
The trims can also be programmed as virtual switches, see 11.3 in the user manual.

I attach the model that i'm using, but I have the 3 position switch mod!
I recommend you to do the switch mod! It's very easy to do, and very usable!!

Thanks @Gerry and @ursus69! As I mentioned, I'm not keen on doing the hardware mods at this time...I just don't have the bandwidth right now.
However, let's say my interest is changing.
In looking over your model file @ursus69, would you explain what your channel 5 config does, and what the virtchanl config does?
Channel 5: you said that's a 3 position switch; but I only see B1 and B2 defined at 0 and 100. What happened to B0 (or would it be B3)?
Virtchanl: I have no ideas.
Thanks!

ursus69's ini has sticky throttle hold mix in virtual1
channel 5 has three mixes B0, B1, B2 the ini does not show B0 as it does not need to be defined (but equally could be) as it is a default value for channel 5 in a 3 page complex mix
so channel 5 complex mix page 1 has default scalar 100 no switch set (but could have B0 set)
mix page 2 has scalar 0 and switch B1
mix page 3 has scalar -100 and switch B2
so in ursus69's ini if B1 or B2 not selected then page 1 will be active.
Sticky throttle hold is a secondary safety measure for the throttle, what it does is prevent the motor spinning up if the hold switch is released while the throttle stick is anywhere but minimum. So if your throttle stick is midstick when you release the hold switch you will have to bring the throttle stick to minimum before throttle will be active.

Also in the above ini when throttle hold is active the control surface throws are reduced.

Thanks Gerry!
I think I understand Channel 5 now...I'm guessing that also applies to 2, 3, and 4, which don't have any "hold0" entries, correct?
So then does the FMODE switch control the sticky throttle hold? The way I read the Channel 6 section is:
FMODE switch in position 1 controls a virtual channel named "hold", and is active if HOLD switch is in position 0?
Thanks for your patience.
I haven't really looked at the Deviation software for a year or so, and I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it currently.

I don't have a Sport Cub S or any SAFE receivers, but you can try this modified ini.
Ursus69's ini Modified in my 7e.
Sticky throttle hold on Hold switch (& virt1)
Panic on FMODE switch (may need reversing)
3 x Flight modes on throttle trim (& virt2) (sequentially selected)
Reduced rates still active when in throttle hold.

Oh wow...thanks again Gerry! I have it loaded and am playing with it now. I see that when the hold switch is in position 0, the throttle doesn't move (stays at -100%), and rud/ail/ele move to 70% throw. Move to hold1 and put throttle stick all the way down, and the throttle moves; and rud/ail/ele move 100%. Moving to hold0 immediately reverts the throttle stick to -100% and rud/ail/ele to 70% throw.
All that to ask: what is the purpose of fully cutting the throttle and reducing throws to 70% during flight? Is this an "emergency landing" type of scenario?
Thanks again; I'm (hopefully) learning a lot!

The hold switch should work the other way around, Hold0 (up) throttle active, Hold1 (down) throttle hold.
Not sure how to answer the other for you,
As you see though, using virtual channels and trim/nav buttons can be confusing, this is where adding the extra 3 pos switches makes life with a 7e so much better. About $10.00 in parts and 1/2-1 hour to do it.

Well, I got my SCS today, so I bound the Devo to it with this config, spent about 5 minutes just making sure all the controls worked the correct way (they did), then put it on my back patio and taxied it around a bit. The rudder seemed a bit overzealous, but I figured I'd give it a try. So I lined it up, throttled it up, the plane pulled hard to the right, the prop hit my lawn, and the motor mount broke loose.
So, now it's time to learn how to fix my SCS. Guess I'll get back to the Devo after that.
