Doesn't work (I have one), it uses some strange rf chip (that's supposedly somewhat compatible with the NRF24L01+).

It uses LT8910, unfortunately with data rate specific to it - 62.5kbps - which is not supported by nRF24. It is probably possible to emulate it with CC2500 - it's much more flexible, but it is considerable effort.

You can study the protocol - I already reverse engineered it, and write an emulator for LT8910 62.5kbps mode for CC2500, not unlike I did for XN297 (with huge help from @goebish).

These boards are not that great - first version of L6052 was without Holding Head but much more lively, they say.

Briefly, if you can't program - you can do nothing.

Cool ! I was thinking it should be possible to emulate the A7105 with a CC2500 as well.

May be, but why? LT8910 is a late newcomer with limited support and obscure datasheet. They can stop producing it or modify arbitrarily at any moment, not unlike what they've done with LT8900.

A7105 is a very well-known chip with many people having extensive experience with it. To save on the number of chips? Then there is better one, ADF7242, I'm still working on it. It potentially can replace everything except CYRF6936. Out of interest? Yeah, it can be interesting project.

One more thing - I just re-read my words in your quote and feel that I was misunderstood - it was my suggestion to DJDavid33 that he can write an emulator. It looks like I already did - I did not (yet). I plan to, time permitting.

So many things to do, so little time.

Yes, that was to save a chip.
Ah OK, I misunderstood and thought you had emulation working.

I received a CC2500 breakout some time ago but didn't have a chance to play with it yet.

CC2500 is more complicated but much more flexible, with almost every aspect of it tunable and with desktop application allowing you to get the recommended registers for your specific usage - SmartRF. It's also very well documented.

Hate to disappoint you but this is not the best board. When it started and before they introduced headless mode into it people tested it and said it is almost best in class. But the second (I suspect, current) release is much more tame than the first one.

Going there slowly - I have L6052, but also have many more projects in the queue :-)
