I'm trying figure out how to bind my Devo 7 with a Syma X5SW. Is it possible? Are there updates or programming changes? I see all kinds of info on the 7e.

Nope. The Devo 7 is a very basic toy-grade transmitter with no modification possible (at least, none anyone bothered with due to its limitations).

I wouldn't call the Devo 7 a toy grade TX.
It is a very capable 100mW TX, with the same size and quality of the Devo 10, it just isn't supported by deviation because of the limited MCU, the lack of USB and the fixed type LCD. BTW the latter makes the programming a bit hard even with the stock fw, but there is a PC program to ease the job...
