Install Virtualbox (its free)
download your VM here
dev.modern.ie/tools/vms/#downloads (its free and 100% legal)
unzip and open the VM file
in ubuntu you need to follow the troubleshooting steps here to get USB devices to recognize
askubuntu.com/questions/365850/virtualbo...usb-filters-settings
all i had to do was
sudo usermod -G vboxusers -a <your_username>
and then just follow the steps for a normal install inside the VM
Worked for me

I followed this path, the VM 'sees' the 7e, but does not find a device driver for it ...aperseghin wrote: OK so you only use linux but you want to install deviation firmware. Well you can.

But I have hit another wall. Found that the Walkera Dfuse USB firmware upgrade package was also needed. Only found the V2.3. Installed it but it does not 'see' my 7e. Is there a special version for the 7e? Any hints?

So I have to go on with Win7 under VirtualBox as up to now (not that I relish it, believe me).
Addenda 1: in fact, after unziping it and transferring all the files to Win7, I do not even know which prog/command to invoke!
Addenda 2: GOT IT GOT IT GOT IT! Decided to risk it: installed Java in the VirtualBox Win7, invoked the Java Deviation Uploader 0.8.0, and it worked like a charm.
Thank you for your support, hexfet.
Now, the next hurdle.

You don't need a device driver for it. At least, I didn't. Like the Mac, Linux comes with the appropriate driver installed.
You don't need a path to the device, either - it should scan the USB devices until it finds your Devo.
Still can't sit at a desk, but I'll be willing to try it again once I can it you would like to support this out.
Do not ask me questions via PM. Ask in the forums, where I'll answer if I can.

This is also an option, I was already running a VM system so thats the route i went. More than one way to skin a cay (who are all these people skinning cats?)
