Hmm... what about the antenna track from the solder point of the bare module to the UFL connector? Doesn't it affect the signal quality?
One could consider cutting the trace and soldering a UFL connector directly to the three points at the bare module. Is the stock antenna cable long enough to reach that point? I don't want to open my Devo 10 to check it.
I would consider buying this new module for my Devo 10 and removing the bare 4in1 and using that one in my AT9 when everything is ready.

That is my concern as well. To be 50Ohm trace the board on which the module mounted should be 4 layer one. Or for this thickness it should be coplanar wave guide - which is does not seem to be - for this type of transmission line it should be surrounded by ground from the both ends. if stock antenna is long enough it is definitely better to move U.FL closer to the module output.
But people report reasonable power output from the module, so maybe we don't understand something.

You know what, on your photo it looks like a legit coplanar waveguide, my only concern is it crosses the module footprint a bit. It explains why the other people report reasonable results. For 1.6mm (59mil material thickness) FR4 and 6mil gap between the guide and ground plane it width will be around 50mil or 1.27mm - which seems to be what it is.

I range tested low power DSMX on a Devo 10 4-in-1 and a 7E with range mod and got nearly identical results at the same power. I think that this implies that there isn't a 4-In-1 antenna trace issue, at least at low power DSMX. Here are the details:

After all that I've decided to install two separate modules the NRF24L01 & A7105 (links below). These two modules look fairly simple to fit and only cost me £9.50. I also get to reduce the amount of risk involved in doing the mod. My only issue is having 3 antenni. I have seen some people just curl it up inside the Devo case so I may try that first unless anyone has a better idea?
Whilst I'm at it I'm going to cut off the top of the existing aerial and put on a screw fitting too. I may even be tempted to go for the range mod if I can get the shield off. I also have some 3 position switches coming for the ultimate Devo 7e.

Is this 4in1 compatible with the 7e w/out the wire soldered to the mcu?And are there any major issues with just using the original 7e chip instead of the upgrade for more space like in the ultimate version?In other words is this 4in1 w/out major issues to go straight in the 7e.

You still have to solder to the MCU if you want to use all four modules.

the 4in1 will work fine in the stock 7e, it doesn't require an upgraded mcu in the transmitter to work. also as epilot said if you wish to use all 4 rf chips you need to solder to the mcu, but if you only wish to use 3 of the rf chips you can avoid that

I think you have to use the cyrf (I could be wrong though), but of the other three you can choose which one not to use
from what I've read recently regarding this subject it looks like it has been implimented correctly, size and ohm'age, no sharp turns/edges etc, if I had this knowledge back then I don't think I would have bothered modifying it as I did. live and learn as the saying goes

An open RF trace without any shielding cover around is always very poor design, RFI wise. Certainly there is some loss in the trace even if it is properly designed to be 50ohms.Personally I would solder my Coax directly to the output of module close as possible, removing the solder bridge between module and main pcb.

Hello, as im doing this for someone else i want to be perfectly sure the 3-in-1 modules PA_EN and LNA_EN pins are both left floating? Not connected to any pins at all?

I've had my devo 8 a long time. Long enough to remember putting in the 8s module so that I could get telemetry. Does the new 4 in 1 module have all the same telemetry functionality that our origional modules have?
